Off the beaten path, but still pretty popular here in the north country is Salmon River Falls in Orwell, New York. With an easy groomed trail to the top of the falls, and a slightly more challenging trail to the bottom of the gorge, it’s a wonderful location for an engagement session. The bottom of the falls at sunset makes for some of the dreamiest light, because the falls are west facing, so it remains well lit during golden hour.

If getting to the bottom of the falls interests you, definitely make sure to wear good footwear. Trail runners are suggested, hiking boots are preferred. It’s steep, and depending on the time of year can be slick with mud or ice.
