When you decide to elope, you’re not bound by any existing traditions. You’re not required to host your ceremony or gathering on a weekend as per status quo. You’re also not required to have your elopement in the mountains, or at some far off destination. Your elopement can absolutely take place on a weekday, especially if there is a particular date that is significant to you and your partner. It can also take place in your backyard and still be hella beautiful, intimate, and meaningful.
If y’all know anything about me, it’s that I’m a huge nerd. I’m an avid fan of Kirby, Animal Crossing, and Sailor Moon. So when Audree and Zach reached out to me about documenting their intimate backyard May 4th elopement, complete with tons of Star Wars touches, I was more than on board!
They wanted a meaning filled day with their closest family and a few friends, totaling roughly 15 guests. Audree shared with me that she and Zach were DIY’ing most of the details of their day. From floral arrangements on the arbor, to the cake, to signage, Audree and Zach were entirely hands on in the details of their day. Wait until you see the stunning cake Audree made!!
Their close friend had driven down from Maine to officiate their ceremony and celebrate along with them and he nearly forgot an important aspect of their ceremony: the ring exchange. Their ceremony was filled with laughs, tears of joy, and a quick game of “Rock, Paper, Scissors” to see who would go first to read their written vows. After some heartfelt laughter, Audree and Zach exchanged their beautiful rings and were proclaimed married. Together with their 15 guests, the newlywed couple celebrated their union by engaging in yard games, dancing, sharing a few toasts, and enjoying some local woodfired pizza from OIP.
Enjoy these highlights from their amazing backyard May the Fourth elopement.
